Arenas, 85, of Chino, died March 25, 2010, in Pomona.

He was born Feb. 20, 1925 in Ontario and was a lifelong resident of Chino. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Chino and attended Street School as a child. In World War II, he served with the Army's 106th Division in the Philippines, where he achieved the rank of staff sergeant. He volunteered as a Boy Scout leader for Troop 207 for more than 40 years.

In 1992, he received the Layman of the Year award from California Park and Recreation Society, District 11. In 2009, he took part in the Operation Recognition Esperanza Esperanza V. Enriquez, 89, a former Chino resident, died March 25, 2010, in Rancho Cucamonga. She was born Jan. 5, 1921, in Lerdo, Mexico, to Juana and Daniel Medrano Valenzuela.

She immigrated to the United States in 1956 with her family and lived in Chino until she moved to Rancho Cucamonga three years ago. She was a member of Chino Congregational Church since 1957. She enjoyed family gatherings, cooking, gardening, dancing, music and trips to Las Vegas with her friends. Gregory Gregory H. Shaw, 59, died March 27, 2010, while playing a round of golf.

He was born Dec. 9, 1950, in San Francisco, graduated from Anaheim High School and UCLA and lived in Chino Hills. He was a teacher with Pomona Unified School District, and besides golf, loved to travel. He is survived by his wife Sharon; mother, Felipe Felipe De Leon, 76, a former Chino resident, died March 25, 2010, at his home in Hesperia. He was born in Texas and worked more than 45 years as a plaster contractor.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Consuelo "Comfort" De Leon; children, Susie, Stella, Felipe Jessie and Robert; brothers, Gonzales and Albert; sisters, Rosa, Reynalda Juliet M. Juliet M. Hernandez, 79, a Chino native, died March 22, 2010, in Elk Grove. She was born Feb. 17, 1931.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Teofilo C. Hernandez; children, Richard E. Hernandez, Debbie Crandell, Julienne Herrera; six grandchildren; four great-grand- Lois Jean Lois Jean Filkins Crissinger, 78, died March 25, 2010. She was born in Tipton, lowa. She was a resident of Chino and Highland.

She was a retired senior master sergeant of the Air Force and served in the Persian Gulf War. She was preceded in death by Robert E. Crissinger. She is survived by her children Joe Filkins, Teresa Teresa Ann Guyer, 61, of Chino Hills died March 25, 2010, at home. She was born Jan.

7, 1949, in Los Angeles. She was a resident of Chino for 26 years before moving to Chino Hills and residing there for the last seven years of her life. She is survived by her husband Ronald W. Box 607, Chino, CA 91708 or Fax: (909) 590-1217 Chino Valley NOTES Chili cook-off aids children's camp A chili cook-off scheduled for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today (April 3) at the American Legion Post 299 in Chino will benefit a camp for children of deployed military personnel. RecFX Surf Camps, operated by RecFX Foundation, located on Camp Pendleton Beach, are free to children ages 12 to 18 of deployed military.

The camp provides sleeping bags, food, surf lessons, camping and swimming. The fundraiser is open to the public and the founder of the camp will be on hand to answer questions. There is no entry fee, any one can cook. On site set up begins at 8 a. m.

First, second and third place prizes will be awarded, as well as people's choice. Shuffleboard and horseshoe tournaments will take place. A Wii game system and other prizes will be raffled. For information on the surf camp, call the director at (480) 225-9024. Child protection festival planned A child safety and protection festival will be held from 2 to 5 p.m.

Saturday, April 10, at The Shoppes at Chino Hills on Peyton Drive and Grand Avenue. The event will include demonstrations by the Chino Hills Police Department, fingerprinting and photos for child identification cards, disaster preparedness information from the American Red Cross Inland Empire, and information from the Chino Valley YMCA. Service clubs' bingo dinner Chino Valley service clubs will host their annual bingo dinner Monday, April 26, at Brinderson Hall on the Chino Fairgrounds.

YMCA offers Healthy Kids Day Beach themed games, booths and giveaways will be part of Healthy Kids Day 2010 beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 17, at Chino Valley YMCA, 5665 Edison Chino. The park opens at 8 a.m., closes at 7 p.m. Parking fee is $10 per car. Admission to the event is $10 for adults, $5 for children.

Two show battles will be staged each day: 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday; 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Sunday.

The park is located at 16700 S. Euclid Ave. in Chino. Group assists women in need Clothed in Dignity, a Chino Hills-based group of women from five area churches, will hold a fashion show and silent auction from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 24, at Life Christian Fellowship, 5171 Edison Chino.

Clothing will be modeled by girls ages 8 to 13 who designed and produced their own fashions. The group provides clothing, shoes and accessories to women in our community who need assistance. Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for children 16 and younger and are available from group members. Refreshments will be served. The group seeks referrals of women who need their assistance.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Lucy Arenas, and his son, Phillip Arenas. Funeral Mass was celebrated Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Chino. Interment followed at Holy Cross Cemetery in Pomona.

She was preceded in death by her husband Salvador in 1998 and daughter Irma in 1970.

Funeral services will be celebrated at 11 a.m. today (April 3, 2010) at Todd Memorial Chapel, 570 N. Garey Pomona. Burial will I follow at Pomona Valley Memorial Park, 502 E. Franklin, Pomona.

'Salesman' tried bre police say A man claiming to be a door-to-door salesman was arrested March 15 in Chino Hills on suspicion of trying to enter a house by shaking the door knob and lifting a screen on a window.

Deputies arrested David Riggleman around noon at Silverpointe Avenue and Wild Sage Lane as he was being detained by an off-duty officer, authorities said. Mr. Riggleman, 23, was taken to West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga where he was booked on a charge of attempted burglary. Bail was set at $75,000. Deputies were called to a house in the 15000 block of Silverpointe Avenue after the homeowner reported a man who had been going door-to-door attempted to get inside the house.

Chino Hills Sheriff's Service Specialist Selena Morgan said solicitors operating in Chino Hills must have a permit. "It would be proper to ask any solicitor to produce the permit information. Many solicitors do not go through the proper channels to obtain necessary permits," Ms. Morgan said. She advised residents to be wary of giving solicitors money before receiving any goods or services that are promised.
