Champion Saturday, October 31, 2009 School NOTES Oak Ridge Elementary students will collect new white socks for military veterans from Nov. 2 to 9. The socks will be donated to the Jerry L. Pettis Memorial VA Medical Center in Loma Linda. In past years, Oak Ridge students have donated several hundred pairs of socks.

Community members wishing to donate can drop the socks by the school at 15452 Valle Vista Drive, Chino Hills (off Peyton Drive). Don Lugo High students and staff members are collecting pennies through Thursday, Nov. 12, to help sponsor a guide dog for a visually impaired person through the Guide Dogs of America program. Collection jars are available in Ms. Rohrer's room 204 or in the front office.

The community is invited to donate in the front office. The school is located on Pipeline Avenue, just south of Chino Avenue, in Chino. Canyon Hills Junior High in Chino Hills is scheduled to break ground on its reading garden next week. The garden will include a brick path and benches and six pine trees. Donations are sought for the garden by the school's Parent Teacher Student Association.

Chino Valley OBITUARIES Leonila C. Ancheta Hills, died Gustavo Reina of Chino, died Mendez Concrete i in Chino, which he operated until he retired in his 60s. He attended Chino Congregational Church, First Assembly of God and in later life, Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa. Leonila C. Ancheta, 82, of Chino Oct.

24, 2009, in La Verne. She was born Dec. 6, 1926, in the Philippines. She lived in Chino 14 years and was a homemaker. She lived in Chino Hills two years.

She was a member of Chino Hills Filipino-American Seniors Association. Gustavo Reina Mendez, 75, Oct. 22, 2009, in Newport Beach. He was born in Chino in 1934 and attended Chino High School. As a young man, he worked as a carpenter before starting his own company, Gus Donna Catherine Buoniconti Donna Catherine Buoniconti, 58, of Riverside, a longtime fifth-grade teacher at the former Gird Elementary School in Chino, died Oct.

22, 2009, of cancer, in Riverside. She was born Jan. 18, 1951, in Oil City, Pa. She had lived in Riverside for 15 years. She earned a bachelor's degree from Kent State University and was inducted into Kent State's Hall of Fame.

She obtained her master's degree in education from Redlands University in 1997. She was a teacher for 18 years in the Chino Valley Unified School District. Borba Fundamental School teacher Heidi Gross, who worked with Mrs. Buoniconti at Gird, said she was a strong person who was always available to listen and She is survived by her daughters, Lourdes Erece and Corazon Jardenil; sons, Reynaldo and Arnold Ancheta; and five grandchildren. Visitation will be 4 to 9 p.m.

Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at Funeraria del Angel Pierce Bros. Griffith Mortuary in Chino. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov.

2, 2009, at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Riverside National Cemetery. Mendez To donate or for information, contact the school at 464-9938. Canyon Hills Junior High's Scrapbook Club for students will meet from 2 to 2:45 p.m.

Monday, Nov. 2, at the Chino Hills school. Country Springs Elementary School in Chino Hills will benefit from purchases made between 4 and 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, at the Fresh Easy grocery story in Chino Hills.

The store will donate $1 for every $20 in receipts from that time period, as well as 5 percent of the total sales, if the school is mentioned. His favorite song was "Jesus Es Mi Rey Soberano." He loved gardening and especially enjoyed growing tomato plants. He is survived by his wife, Doris; sisters, Juliette Hernandez, Betty Lozano, Alva Robledo; brothers, Pete and Robert Mendez; children, Patricia Mendoza, Valerie Aguilar, Leticia Trabucco, Lorie Collins and Gustavo Mendez 11 grandchildren; and two greatgrandchildren. Services were held Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, at Stone Funeral Home in Ontario.

Interment followed at Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery in Ontario. share co-workers' triumphs and sorrows. Survivors include her husband, Anthony Buoniconti; sons, Wally Page of Texas, Tim Garis of Riverside and Bill Garis of Moreno Valley; mother, Patricia Neese of Pennsylvania; brother, Donald Richard Page of Ohio; and sisters, Terri J. Claypoole and Tammy Rekiel, both of Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death by her father, Donald R.

Page; son, Steven Garis; and brother, Jon Page. A funeral service was held Oct. 29, 2009, at Arlington Mortuary in Riverside. Interment will be in St. Petersburg, Pa.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation. Earl M. Wilkinson Earl M. "Sonny" Wilkinson, 86, formerly of Chino, died Oct.

25, 2009, at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center. He was born Dec. 17, 1922, in Pomona to Earl M. Wilkinson Sr. and Carrie Whitham Wilkinson.

He graduated in 1941 from Pomona High School and attended Cal Poly at San Luis Obispo. He enlisted in the Navy in 1942 and served in the South Pacific. In 1947, he married Bessie Carter of Pomona and they moved to a ranch in Chino. Later, he became assistant manager of the Los Angeles County Fair. He enjoyed golfing, gardening and sailing.

He was a member of Pomona Rotary and Pilgrim Congregational Church. He is survived by his wife, Bess; four children, Scott Wilkinson of Flagstaff, Nancy Marshall of Portland, James Wilkinson of Penngrove, and Brad Wilkinson of Los Osos; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held in November at Pilgrim Congregational Church. Todd Memorial Chapel in Pomona is in charge of arrangements. Harlan Eugene Miersma Harlan Eugene Miersma, 59, of Ontario, died Oct.

23, 2009. He was born Nov. 6, 1949, in Artesia. He was a dairy farmer in the Chino Valley for 37 years. He was a member of First United Reformed Church of Chino.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Greta; mother, Dorothy Miersma; siblings, Curt, Ron, Bob, Henry and Marlene De Jong; children, Vickie Seguy, Harlan Miersma, Laura Bachar, and Cheryl Piper; and six grandchildren. Graveside services were Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, at Bellevue Memorial Park in Ontario, followed by a memorial service at First United Reformed Church in Chino. 25, 2009, at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center. She was born March 6, 1962, in Pomona. She was a 1980 graduate of Don Lugo High School. She is survived by her mother, Consuelo; brothers, Robert and Roy; sister, Alicia, all of Chino. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m.

He was born Dec. 3, 1941, in Los Angeles. He lived in Chino the past six years and was a resident of San Bernardino County for 15 years.
